From what I can gather, from the immigration perspective:
1. If you are on H1 - You can technically start a business but since you cannot "work" towards it, in practice it's almost impossible
2. If you are on H1 and have an EAD - You can start a business. But if you use your EAD, you are no longer on H1. (There are contradicting views on using EAD for PT while still maintaining H1. For now, this is a grey area)
3. If you are on EAD -
a. If you plan to work on your business on a part time basis and stay with your sponsored job full time, I don't see a problem with this.
b. If you plan to work on your business full time, you might have an issue with a RFE at the I-485 stage as you would have used AC21 for self employment (Some people say this is okay, but it depends on your risk taking ability)

What about when u start the company on your spouse name and you work through it...I guess that would also be considered as self employment

I heard from some of my friends that places like Detroit downtown,Arkansas,St.Louis,Tennessee, Louisiana are deadly dangerous.How far this is true?
Recently I met one friend. He was visiting his friend for vacation in New Orelans. When he was washing his hands in the rest room (in a shopping complex or Mall), suddenly he saw 3 or 4 guys surrounding him, hit him and took away his vallet and cell phone. Within a short time his credit card was used for a huge money around $2000. He was hit so bad that his nose bones broke into pieces and he has metal installed now for him to breath properly. I am not sure if this is due to bad economy or enemity over immigrants.

I have requested for your valuable advise. But if you ask me why?No reason.... Why do we have many criminals? Why? Why? why? I believe every one is not perfect in any sense, some get caught, some not....

People get into these issues and keeps haunting them for years. I know a friend, who has a domestic violence record in 1999 or so and till date cant get a US citizenship because of that. Same with another guy who got a DUI in the 90s. Another guy in 2002, in order to bypass blocked traffic went to the other side (like they do in India often) and paid thousands to a lawyer to deal with the litigation with Police.

I came to us 02 june, bought home in 03 August. I applied for GC in Sept 2006. GC has nothing to do with house. If you can get a loan and buy in a decent locality buying any time is beter than renting.

I don�t mean to insult your intelligence, but who ever came up with ideas to ask, celebrities, a noble laurite and other accomplished folks from the immigration community to send faxes does not have the slightest plan on how to make this succeed.
If this is the kind of ideas the �lobbyists� QGA is giving us, may we need some fresh blood in helping us out. I completely agree �eb3retro� in working with AILA.org in helping us get our message across. PLEASE STOP THIS INSANE IDEA OF SENDING FAXES all the time either from members of IV or asking other people to do it on our behalf. We are hurting ourselves and don�t even know it. As I have said in my earlier posts �We need the Erin Brockovich of immigration to help us on this, and I am the AILA or similar organization can do this for us.�

It is easy to criticize what others are doing. You can modulate what IV does simply by becoming more active and involved yourself.
Also, I don't think QGA ever asked IV to get celebrity endorsements. That idea was from some other member like yourself.

Both Franklin and GooblyWoobly have a valid point, but let's not offend anyone on the forum. I see a trend on this forum where some people are trying to differentiate people who attended the rally and who did not. Should we divide the forum to 2 groups now? One being "attended" and the other "no show". It is totally childish... I contributed some money to IV as well since I believe in its effort, and I did not include that in my signature to say "contributed $$$". Do not take your frustration out on anyone 'cause you know other people have the same right... I am not a programmer but it is a endless loop...

The Ombudsman estimates submission of 500K-750K (yes 500K) AOS applications between June 1 and August 17 2007. Most of these applications will be from India and China.
According to Ombudsman's 2007 report, there were ~1M AOS applications pending as of March’07.
So far EAD renewal has been taking ?? months. With the additional applications it will take ?? months and we will have to apply for renewal after ?? months.
The security check backlog appears likely to get worse, if a new immigration bill is enacted as millions of undocumented immigrants would also apply for legalization.
If you were unmarried at the time of filing, you will need to continue on current status (e.g. H-1B) otherwise you cannot bring your spouse.
USCIS is a self-funded organization i.e. it runs on fees it receives and is short on resources.
What do these numbers mean?
There will be 1.4M+ AOS applications by Aug 17 which will take 1.4M/140K = 10+ years. That is, priority dates (PD) will remain retrogressed for several years.
Those who could not file their I-485 now will now have to waitttttt…..
Due to resource constraints, security checks may take years.
Once PD becomes current, it takes on an average 1 year to 3 years to get approval.
Endless cycle of EAD renewals and Advance paroles.
If working on EAD and for any reason, if any of your EAD gets rejected, you will need to stop working, In other words, need to leave your job.
You need to be in the same position with same job responsibilities for an indefinite time period otherwise you Green Card application will be rejected.
EADs are valid for one year and several employers (and rightly so) view it as a temporary permit and hence reluctant to hire you.
Once PD becomes current, it takes on an average 1 year to 3 years to get approval.
So virtually you have three options: a) Struggle for several years b) Leave the USA c) Join us.
Legislative Efforts
EB Immigration reforms do not find enough support on the senate floors (Failure of SKIL, STEM etc Bills). As a matter of fact, it does not even get enough support to make it debatable, let alone final voting on the bills.
IV grassroot effort (flower campaign and SJ rally) was a very important reason for retraction of July Visa Bulletin.

I guess the polling on PD basis is futile it will give people false hope....
Only folks with ND prior to current processing times can expect to have a chance at appoval...I see many people over here beyond the processing date window and are still hoping to get approved....
Let's see if this theory is right or not come september.....if only my lawyer had mentioned that ND over rides PD I'd have forced him to file on July 2nd and not wait till July end....

Guys if you compare the way people live and spend in India, I think they are more well off then we are. I know some friends here, all they do is, look for coupons. They�ll fight all day with Customer care reps for $1 extra that company charged, they don�t leave tips when they eat out and they eat out once in 6 months. Except for a Camry and a leather chair may be a better bed, what is this guy doing better than he would have done in India. Atleast there he had a �Kamwaali� who did the cleaning for his family. He had a tutor who taught his daughter. Here in US all he�s doing is cleaning bathrooms, kitchen their his children ad driving his Camry.

I am not sure about this but one thng can certainly happen with Admin Fix.
Porting of applicant who have stayed long enough in (EB3 to EB2). EB3 15 years experience and still counting and stuck and uncertain porting rules and AC21 doesn't make sense at all.
Or
AC21 rules or some other fix giving relief to people stuck in GC unnecessarily.
