You are eligible to apply under masters quota. There is no special form for the masters cap. However, lets hope that your attorney has checked the box of h1b for "US Masters" and send application to USCIS with ATTN: H-1B U.S. Masters Cap

No the core group doesn't oppose or endorse the idea. If you like the idea then go for it.
As for the media coverage, I was talking to a reporter last night and he agreed that this was a very good way to get media attention - so if people can increase the numbers, it would really help.
Additionally, here are my 2 cents on how the media coverage works. You think up of something unique and then create a buzz around it by talking about it in various forums, blog sites etc. So here's what I've done

Now I think some major clarifications are needed here. The Receipt Date (RD) that is printed on the I-485 receipt is the date whenever queuing according to RD is needed. This is THE date wherever a FIFO is required and is as assigned as soon as the envelope containing the I-485 is received.
The ND only represents the date data-entry is made. This is the date which is mentioned erroneously as "received date" on the USCIS online system. Now this thing has been mentioned at USCIS liaison meetings by center directors and thro' AILA several times (I will post the reference as soon as I find it).
That said whenever I talked to NSC officers (not the National Customer SC non-officers or regional call center IIO's or Infopass ignoramuses) ..officers who personally were aware of the going on's at the service center they said the Notice date does not carry any value for case adjudication priorities and the CLAIMS 3 systems only sequences (or sweeps as they call it) as per the PD and RD (when needed).
Further, since I see all the notes made for my approved I-485 (thro' FOIA) including the worksheet completed by contractors. I clearly do not see any notations mentioned with reference to the ND on it...
That said, for the OP, since your RD is very close to the "official" processing date there are all chances that your application might have already gone under the eyes of a CAO (Center Adjudication Officer). Call NSC directly and ask since you are so close and especially since your date is going current next month....you want to make sure that your file is either pre-adjudicated OR assigned to an officer.
I can tell you this that i talked to representative at TEXAS SERVICE CENTER (TSC) and he flat out told me that the RD of my case is Oct 10, 2007 however the receipts i have state a RD of Aug 3rd, 2007 with ND of Oct 10, 2007. I asked the TSC rep about this and she kept saying the date keyed in our system is Oct 10, 2007 and that is the date we go by.
I have asked my lawyer to send a formal query and have also sent email to TSC after talking to National Service center as NSC recommended me to send a letter to TSC. My lawyer believes they will honor Aug 3rd but if i do not hear anything i will take INFOPASS and drill it down.

Someone gave me a "red" with totally unjustified reason. Initially I was upset - and I complained about it - found that he gave me more reds with similar comment from multiple userids (because one userid can't give multiple green/red to the same post). And this guy is doing at weird times ..like 5 in the morning (so psyco is the right description ... now I am sure he is going to given couple of reds to me :D )
After rethinking - now I don't care much about reds - someone is just pissed off, jealous or having fun ... red might make us (and our posts) look less reliable ... however I decided to keep my blood-pressure low and psyco's high :D ..so go ahead psyco - add more reds !!

I'm not sure if I'm eligible to apply for Master's quota. I'm done with all my degree requirements and I've scheduled my thesis defence on MAy 20th. Is it still possible that I can apply in Master's quota. I've a letter from my schools which states that I'm done with all my degree requirements and I'll be finishing thesis on May 20th. Is this letter enough to apply for MAsters??

first: my use of an extreme exemple to explain the EB category difference seems to have caused misunderstanding and offence amomg some people. this was not the intention, no slight was intended to anyone. sometimes one uses an extreme situation to make a point (3 yr degree in this case). I was not trying to stereotype and if that is how it came through...here is my humble apology.
i did reply to some of the posters by pm and had some intersting comments/discussion. its one of the nice things about this forum that people bring different insights into a problem...
qvadis, there is fundamental difference between allotting Employment based Gc on the basis of country of birth and based on job classifications/requirements. One happens to pertain to employment, the other is simply a way to mantain ahem "purity".
having said that, i do not favor the removal of country quotas in isolation- the redistribution of dates would make things better for long suffering people but it would not change the overall picture. therefore i support the package in its entirity (as does IV), ie recapture + STEM exemption + removal of country quotas. this would bring in substantially increased numbers and resolve the problem with ROW dates.
now that its established that this thread will not go back to its original intent, do the OPs mind if i close it? may be best to restart the discussion in a new thred?

Probably, she will be deported back to india and ban to USA. But, it may lead to put into you troubles for hiring illegal immigrant, for paying cash and not reporting to IRS. They may even review your tax returns for the past 3 years.

Well said. Just think of this flower drive as a way to display our collective might to the media. What really shocks me is that most of us are tech savvy and yet we don't even see too many blog posts on this issue by the community of skilled, legal non-immigrants.

If my wife who is an MBA finance from Mumbai, currently working as a corporate banker with one of the top 5 banks in the world comes to the US on an H4 & decides to do a CPA certification, can she work on OPT until the H1B quota opens up next year???
I received an RFE too,but within 2 weeks of submission of my appln.I have already submitted the reuqested RFE.DO you know whats next?Is RFE a normal procedure?Is there any kind of risks,if you get an RFE?Please let me know.
