I just wrote an email to the editors with the email address provided by walking_dude. My email says this:
Dear Editor
You mention in an article dated today that "HIGH-TECH EMPLOYERS get lift from House Republican letter to Speaker Pelosi urging passage of immigration bill to help "attract and retain" high-skilled workers". And in the same breath you say that "In a poll 56% of Republicans earning more than $75,000 annually would "strongly" or "partially" agree with candidate who would bar illegal immigrants from path to citizenship." Do you know the difference between highly skilled legal immigrants and illegal immigrants?. Why do you have to imply that all highly skilled are illegal, infact 99.99% of highly skilled workers (Tech workers) came to the USA legally and continue to live legally. They are here at the behest of their employers.
So please correct your article to reflect that.

Anyone reading this thread who was able to file the 485 in the July/Aug window. These questions are particularly directed at you. I know some of them are rhetorical, but I want to provoke a little thought.
1) Do you consider this(having filed 485) to be a better situation for yourself and your family?
2) Do you consider that IV advocacy and lobbying, flower power, media attention etc played a large role in this reversal?
3) If instead of what happened, they had instituted a policy where you could file 485 while retrogressed if you pay a $1000 extra filing fee per petition. Would you not have done it?
4) If you answered yes to all the above questions, Can you find it in you to do the honorable thing and contribute something, to say thank you.
We had atleast 320K 485 filings, if just 10% of these people contributed something, anything at all, money would not be an issue. Why is this not happening? There should simply have been a better response to the request for donations. Forget about the other guy, you just do your part, even if you did not do it before you benefited, do it after you did. Do it because it is right. Do it because, the more you do the better your chance to get further. Remember nothing invested, nothing gained.

What can Obama do when most of the Republicans are dead against the immigration reform. They didn't allow their own party president to pass the CIR. Do you think they will allow Obama to do it?
He won't be able to pass any new laws anymore, they can't even agree on a budget. Forget any other controversial topic. BUT , when he ran for the office, he had promised to fix "the broken immigration system" within the first year of his office. He hasn't kept many of his major promises and is highly doubtful to get re-elected if the Republicans have a strong candidate(disclaimer: Trump isn't a strong candidate)
We're bound to be in this rut for a very long time if we want to stay here!

My spouse is in a situation where she has spent more than 6 years time on H4 furthering her education/skills and now she cannot apply for a H1. I had read sometime back on murthy.com that USCIS was considering decoupling of H1/H4 time. That should soften the blow of retrogression to some of us.

I liked permfilings idea about a mass day off from work...and a small meetup in each town..however this has to be publicised that its going to happen...I guess this should be the first symbolic thing..the next thing..i really loved the sweeping streets idea...we shud do this in front of capitol hill...much better if we all wear suits and carry brooms to brush the dirt off..and have posters that say..PLEASE BRUSH THE DUST OFF - OF MY GREENCARD APPLICATION AND PROCESS IT....

Something I notice here and would like to get your opinions..
People who donate their time and money to IV, understand and appreciate the efforts by IV volunteers to fix the broken immigration system do not usually get into this guessing game. Am I wrong?

We can also look at the possibility of mass drive towards bone marrow doner registration, Blood donation drive, Eye donation, etc.
Also possible is continue with Youtube videos. I think the reason for low response a) laziness b) doing alone may not be exciting and motivating enough.
Suggestion. We do the youtube videos in groups of three/four. It would be fun activity and will help to build bond amongst IV members.

Let us hear more info from the IV core about the SKIL bill and why the dems voted nay for it. Just do not go analyzing things from your perspective, on a public forum.
Just the way, IV was instrumental in getting the July Visa Bulletin fiasco rectified, they are on top of everything(I am sure). Have a nice week end.

The Employment Based Immigration section explains how they will make a task force to prevent illegal workers from being exploited. I don't see anything for legal EB workers other than this 5 year thing which will start counting after this law is passed. :mad:
It says 5 years preceding from the date this law is enacted. Does this not mean that they will look 5 years back from the date this law is enacted?
Also i do not see them say it is for illegals only...
I do not think they would make it easier for illegals than legal residents.
I am not very optimistic about this . But i would definately like to see this pass.

Dude I think you are thinking too much of it. USCIS is an organization that goes by a process. If they have a pending application, they have to process it. they decided in the summer of 2007 that they will hire additional contractors and process all the pending applications so that they reach their goal of 4 months processing times of 485.
Why will they waste their resources on your $325 dollars again dude? Is the amount that high that they will reopen the case at the time of finally alloting a visa number, and spend the money/resources on reviewing the case again?
Whatever be the PD, USCIS is all set for a month processing time of 485 by Sept 2009. All cases filed before Jun of this year should have been either pre-adjudicated or denied by that date.
well my view is that it is not that obvious !! say someone is in EB3-I with a priority date of 2004 or EB2-I with a PD of 2006 / 2007 - what would USCIS do ?
these are not the low hanging cases (as opposed to EB2 with PD of 2004 or EB3 with PD of 2001) ..or in other words - there is less chance that they will become current soon ..in that case, does USCIS close the case and put the file away or will they still pre-adjudicate ??

I agree that it's really a personal choice. It's quite risky in this economy with housing prices going down. It needs a lot of reasearch and lot of thinking before you can make that decision. I don't think surveying people will help because there's lots of personal factors that can play a role in making that decision. Maybe it may help to listen to different people's decision making process. Having GC is a factor but it's not the only limiting factor. I know a lot of people who bought homes much before they filed the i-485 and i know few others who didn't and you can't blame them for their decisions.
For the record, i bought my home in 2008 and i must admit that owning a home is one of the nicer things i did in this country. We and the kids love the extra space and the luxury. My kids will be going to public school next year so will be making full use of the taxes we pay.
If you have a stable job, IMO you can buy a home and i bet you won't regret that decision. But stable job is as hard as finding a treasure these days.
