So apparently Mr. Beeks has a new person on his list to avoid at the Christmas party. It'll be interesting to see Apple's response to this, if there is one.

    Wrong.

Expiry has nothing to do with it. As an account holder with four iPhones, my line is elligible for upgrade every year.
I have an iPhone 4, I'm upgrade eligible on June 11th.

    Where's my iPhone 5, Apple?

Your plan for upgrading is with your cell phone provider, right? Most likely the answer is yes - but Apple is not responsible for fulfilling your cell phone promise of upgrades every year. Thats between you and your cell phone provider... Harsh as it may sound..

Since Apple are releasing the white iPhone 4 soon, I doubt Apple will be pushing out an iPhone 5 between now and end of summer..

Anti-Semitism is generally quite swiftly and harshly dealt with in this country (and rightly so). It's a shame such an attitude towards prejudice is not more evenly applied when it comes to other groups.

I think Israel deserves quite a lot of criticism, as does the pro-Israeli lobby. Criticism of these two entities is not tantamount to anti-Semitism. Also, much what Thomas says echoes sentiments being expressed accross the Middle East on a daily basis. She is Lebanese, and Israel's track record with Lebanon is pretty shameful. Right or wrong, this stuff is not necessarily coming out of the blue. With that being said, some of Thomas' statements and language came across as very reckless at best.

Don't tell me where to put my western values. It is not government's job to uphold the corporatocracy by putting employees in jail whenever their employer doesn't like what they did. Even worse in a communist country where the "employer" and the government might be one and the same. I have every right to know how governments treat their citizens if I might be buying their products.

In general, trade secrets are a civil matter in the US, not a criminal matter - there is no arrest, there is no go to jail, it is a financial matter.

If this article is wrong and these people were not "arrested" as the article says, then the article absolutely needs to be corrected.

I would've agreed with you if everything you said are ture, however, even in the Us where the law is so perfect, theft of trade secert is still a feredal crime.

Anyways, dispite the fact they did commit the crime, you can't assume everything has everything to do with the government. Saying a Taiwanese owned company, foxconn, might be the same as Chinese government is simply false. And what make you so sure about the arrest did happened? Because you think this is how things are in china? Lol

I know what your point is, but you just like so many chinese people, blame their very own failur on the goverment. Yea those manufactur workers should have more pay, better benefits and better life, if you can tell apple and many western international corperations pay the poor chinese people more, than again, you might not afford your iphone ipad and your computers, and cars and many many other things.

I might be wrong about this, but you sure you dont have anything made in a country where worker paid 0.20 per day?

But no one in china only earn only 0.20/day, so this is also not true....I dont know how you guys came up with this.....

I like this law. We should bring it over here to the US

I don't think facial covering for religious reasons should affect the legality either way. How much of the face would need to be covered to be illegal? What about sporting a beard and wearing sunglasses at the same time?

Anyone know if there's an app that saves similar data? I travel a fair bit and found the mapping quite nice to display.

The cache is still there. It just deletes it if you turn location services off.

    Hell yes!!!

With a better mobile graphics GPU, i.e.,
ATI Mobility Radeon X1800 Series or
    GeForce Go 7900

    Larger optional hard drives:
offer the Seagate ST9160821A-RK 160 GB ATA-100 for mac laptops or Seagate Momentus 5400.3 160 GB

and here is the kicker: (optional)
    Blu-Ray Drive player/burner, with DVD+-R (dl) ability.

hey i know it would cost more, but apple is supposed to lead in terms of technology.

Getting a little ahead of ourselves on the GPU?? How about Apple clocking the X1600 at ATI's default speed, first.;)

What did the city officals think they were going to accomplish? This is cell phone service, there are no gaurantees of service quality enforced by law and a cell phone is by no means a necessity of life. If the service sucks, why doesn't everyone in town change carriers? That's what the free market is about.

Yea. but what to do when you were an AT&T customer, migrating to Cingular.. stuck in a contract.. with service that simply doesn't work.. then what is a 'customer' to do ??

Believe me, I had to fight TOOTH and NAIL with cingular.. took me almost a year to get OUT of a service that didn't work.

Because the press can latch onto anything that makes someone look bad and hammer on despite facts. The press do not have the same goals as Apple does - they want to sell a story. Apple is trying to sell a phone. If the press can sell a story that reveals a failure out of a successful company and get viewers in the process they will do it. The fact is, the media is not always limited by the facts. They sell controversy.

And that "fact" may not be an actual fact. The world is much larger than your own personal perception of it. This is the world that companies play in.

He can very well say that if people are making false assumptions about things.

But it is not a "false assumption" for people to say, "when my hand, my finger, my face, etc. come into contact with this antenna, the signal drops." That is neither false, nor an assumption. It happens, I can replicate it. So can many other people.

Do I know the reason for it? No. I have no idea the reason for it. I don't need to know the reason for it. I just know that it happens.

Makes Me mad that Macrumors put this on their site.

Im not mad at mac rumors for putting this up, because if they don't I could not get mad at it.

I think that its pointless, wasting resources for a cheap laugh, and clearly an iPad doesn't blend!

It only blends if you destroy it first!!!

If Apple comes out with a deal that includes all movie / episode downloads for $10, then uh.

    'gasm.

Toss in iAd along with streaming music and it's probably still a longshot... but I love the idea. Apple would DOMINATE the streaming market. Can you imagine the number of Apple users who would pay $10 a month for an all inclusive media streaming service? $10 multiplied by *a giant number* + iAd revenue = huge profit for Apple with more than enough to appease the content producers.

When you buy one at these stores, how do they activate it or know if your up for an upgrade?

Best Buy sells all of the big name phones for all major carriers, and they have a dedicated section of the store for mobile phone purchases, so they can easily activate your phone or look up your existing contract. I've had several phones activated at Best Buy and not once have I had a problem.

Works both ways though, black on the display of the 'old' iPhone 4 never looks quite black with the black face of the phone.

Certainly - it's probably a preference, or some people just aren't as picky. For me, I am extremely picky about the whites not matching but I'm not very offended by the black level

Isn't Best Buy participating in the pre-ordering program on June 15th? Apple Stores are, as is AT&T. At both places, the phones will be ready for pickup on the 24th ---AT&T promises front-of-the-line, no waiting for pre-ordering customers. Of course, you have to pay for it when you order it, but. . .

**I thought u had to have it shipped to you if you pre-order and aren't guaranteed to get it by the 24th. Where did you hear you can have it shipped to the store and are guaranteed to have it that day in store?

Alas, the poll didn't work out...

As for tacking things on the conference calendar, I just ran into an announcement from Leo Laporte and the MacBreak team... they're inviting people to get together for a taping of MacBreak Weekly on Tuesday evening... apparently there'll be prizes and such (you Californians get all the fun ;))

Come see Merlin, Alex, Scott, and Leo along with many Mac luminaries during our live taping of MacBreak Weekly, Tuesday, January 9, at the 21st Amendment brew pub, 563 2nd Street in San Francisco. Alex tells me we have several thousand dollars worth of prizes to give away. And we'll be taping in Dolby Headphone for that really trippy sound.

What: Live taping of MacBreak Weekly - the post Jobs Keynote show
Where: 21st Amendment brew pub, 563 2nd Street in San Francisco
When: Taping is 6-8p. The post show party could go on all night!
Who: Leo Laporte, Merlin Mann, Scott Bourne, Alex Lindsay, and many Mac luminaries!

We had planned to be at the Apple Store, but there were some last minute issues there and 21st Amendment leapt to our rescue. It should be more fun anyway. See you there! Link (http://www.twit.tv/2007/01/05/macbreak_weekly_live_at_21st_amendment)

( map updates are free.. unlike Garmin )
    ....

I think smartphone are already impacting GPS sales. Such premium services that Garmin etc offer such as Traffic will become free for smartphones - these companies have to compete.
I don't think you've been paying close attention. All the gps companies now offer lifetime map updates for about the price that one update used to cost. And there are bundles with devices that render the lifetime cost to nearly free, maybe it comes out to $20 or something.

Also, they have finally seemed to learn that their fancy, pay-for traffic systems are crap. They are disappearing and only the FM-based traffic remains. And, other than the additional hardware cost (also usually bundled for less), that is free.

That said, the traffic info on the iOS Maps app is better for me than my Garmin's FM traffic hookup.
I didn't interpret it as network traffic. What would be the purpose of "a crowd sourced traffic service"? If the goal is to provide "an improved traffic service", how does that relate to network traffic? Tell Apple which hotspots are overloaded? With what end goal?

On the other hand, I don't know how Apple could be accurately collecting vehicle traffic data without pinpointing the location of your iPhone (e.g. on a local highway) so I guess there's room for interpretation.

Ditto. Who cares about network traffic at the user level? Are you going to go somewhere else to use data on a phone because of this? (which would have to be many miles away, hardly a quick walk)

But I also wonder how crowd-data would help automobile traffic details.

    Vista has text-in-icon, doesn't it?

I find it odd that they show two different ways of warning for phishing: the red bar and the sheet.

I agree with that, maybe they haven't decided which one to use.
They are probably real though, nothing spectacular as most fakes usually are.
